Sparx Maths

Children are set weekly Maths homework on Sparx Maths.  This is set every Wednesday and due the following Wednesday.

You can watch a video that tells you all about the platform by following this link.

More information can be found on the Top Tips for Parents document

How can students login?

The easiest way for pupils to log onto Sparx Maths is via the Court Fields School home page under the 'students' tab. There is an icon for Sparx Maths which will take your child directly to their Sparx Maths homework.

My child has forgotten their login details, what can they do?

They should click on the forgot login details and follow the steps to reset their logins. If they have forgotten their password, they should please reset their password or send a request to their teacher to do so.

What are students expected to do?

Students must complete the work that is marked as 'compulsory homework' on Sparx Maths. They input their answers online and Sparx will mark each question for  them.  This should take them approximately one hour and the questions set are tailored to each individual student and driven by the scheme of learning that we follow in school.

They don't need to do this all in one sitting - they could break this down into 3 twenty minute chunks.

Book work checks

Pupils will have a blue Sparx Maths exercise book, which stays at home, in which they write down their working out and a unique code for each question they answer. This is known as a book work code. Sparx will ask pupils for their book look codes at random points  throughout the homework, to ensure that they are writing down their working out.

Further information on book look codes can be found here What are bookwork checks? (sparx.co.uk)

What if my son/daughter is really stuck on a question?

Sparx Maths has a video linked to every question which will talk our son/daughter through how to solve the question. Please encourage your son/daughter to watch the video if they are stuck!

Please try to resist helping your son/daughter too much!  Parental support is fantastic, but over-helping or doing the work for your child could lead to Sparx Maths misunderstanding their level and making their homework too difficult!

We also offer a Sparx Maths homework clinic on Wednesdays from 3:15 - 4:00 where there will be Maths teachers available to support your son/daughter with their homework. This is open to all and you don't need to pre-book or inform the school in advance if your son/daughter wants to attend.

What if my child would like to do extra Maths homework or wants to use Sparx Maths to help them revise or consolidate what they have learnt?

Your son/daughter can also use the 'independent learning' or the 'XP boost' features on Sparx Maths to further strengthen their understanding or to give them some stretch and challenge questions.

What if my son/daughter does not do their Sparx homework?

We really want your son/daughter to do their Maths homework as this really helps them to consolidate what they have learnt in class.

If your son/daughter does not do their Sparx homework and they do not attend the Wednesday after school support clinic, they will have a detention on Friday from 3:15 - 4:00. Parents will be sent a text to inform them about this in advance.
